OpenSlice Research Ecosystem

OpenSlice serves as a toolbox for experimentation, prototyping and validation of research projects and industry. Find here all research activities using or contributing to OpenSlice.

ACROSS

01/01/2023 - 31/12/2025

ACROSS is a HORIZON-JU-SNS-2022 funded research project that designs and implements an end-to-end service deployment and management platform for next generation networks and services, aiming at unprecedented levels of automation, performance, scalability, and energy efficiency. OpenSlice is used as a cross-domain orchestrator realizing end-to-end scenarios in domains.

FIDAL

01/01/2023 - 31/12/2025

FIDAL delivers a unified experimentation framework with Zero-Touch orchestration, reusable Network Applications, and secure AI as a Service capabilities. In order to validate Evolved 5G technologies in a user environment and maximize downstream take up and prepare the ground prepare the ground for 6G, the project will deploy 3 testbeds and 3 large-scale test infrastructures in Greece, Norway, and Spain. OpenSlice is used as the Zero-touch domain orchestrator used to configure and deploy 5G services.

IMAGINE-B5G

01/01/2023 - 31/12/2025

The IMAGINE-B5G E2E facility will fuel testing and experimentation of core technologies and architectures, facilitating innovative services and businesses, and become a key enabler for future B5G vertical services and applications. OpenSlice will be used as an orchestrator of services on top of testbeds.

P2CODE

01/01/2023 - 31/12/2025

P2CODE envisions the design and development of an open platform for the deployment and dynamic management of end user applications, over distributed, heterogeneous and trusted IoT-Edge node infrastructures, with enhanced programmability features and tools at both the network infrastructure level and the service design and operational level. OpenSlice is used as a resource orchestrator abstracting and managing private infrastructure resources.

NANCY

01/01/23 - 31/12/25

The overall aim of NANCY is to introduce a secure and intelligent architecture for the beyond fifth generation (B5G) wireless network. Leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and blockchain, NANCY enables secure and intelligent resource management, flexible networking, and orchestration. In this direction, novel architectures, namely point-to-point (P2P) connectivity for device-to-device connectivity, mesh networking, and relay-based communications, as well as protocols for medium access, mobility management, and resource allocation will be designed.

NANCY leverages ETSI OpenSlice as a Resource Orchestration platform that will facilitate testing and validation of several NANCY Use Cases. UBITECH, as a member of the OpenSlice TSC, promotes an integrated orchestration platform using Maestro and ETSI OSL as a holistic service and resource orchestration platform.

RIGOUROUS

01/01/2023 - 31/12/2025

RIGOUROUS introduces a new holistic and smart service framework leveraging new Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence mechanisms, which can react dynamically to the ever-changing threat surface on all orchestration layers and network functions.

VERGE

01/01/2023 - 31/06/2025

The main goal of VERGE (AI-powered eVolution towards opEn and secuRe edGe architEctures) is to tackle the challenges of edge computing evolution and provide an open, secure and distributed edge architecture that can be seamlessly integrated into an edge-to-cloud continuum. This is sustained in three pillars: (i) Edge4AI, which creates an integrated compute and communication continuum where cloud-native services can be flexibly deployed and orchestrated; (ii) AI4Edge, which offers a portfolio of AI-powered solutions to optimize the network performance, and (iii) security, privacy and trustworthiness for AI (SPT4AI). Slicing is a key capability of the project and encompasses both network slices and MEC application slices. The project has different AI-based solutions for allocating capacity to RAN slices, for which the interworking with OpenSlice is under discussion.

5GASP

01/01/2021 - 31/03/2024

5GASP aims at shortening the idea-to-market process through the creation of a European testbed for SMEs that is fully automated and self-service, in order to foster rapid development and testing of new and innovative 5G Network Applications built using the 5G NFV based reference architecture. Building on top of existing physical infrastructures, 5GASP intends to focus on innovations related to the operation of experiments and tests across several domains, providing software support tools for Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) of VNFs in a secure & trusted environment for European SMEs capitalizing in the 5G market.
